Our Arizona Constitution mandates the Attorney General, who is elected by the people, for a four-year term to serve as the head attorney for our State.
The Attorney General…
Has jurisdiction over Arizona’s Consumer Fraud Act, public corruption, white-collar crime, organized crime, environmental and civil rights laws, as well as crimes committed in more than one county.
Brings and defends lawsuits on behalf of Arizona.
Oversees approximately 400 attorneys and 1000 employees.
Develops formal legal opinions for state agencies.
Serves as chief legal officer for most state agencies.
Represents Arizona in any Federal court proceeding in which the State is a party.
Has supervisory powers over our county attorneys.
Steps in if a county attorney has a conflict of interest.
