Our Arizona Constitution mandates the Attorney General, who is elected by the people, for a four-year term to serve as the head attorney for our State.

The Attorney General…

  • Has jurisdiction over Arizona’s Consumer Fraud Act, public corruption, white-collar crime, organized crime, environmental and civil rights laws, as well as crimes committed in more than one county.

  • Brings and defends lawsuits on behalf of Arizona.

  • Oversees approximately 400 attorneys and 1000 employees.

  • Develops formal legal opinions for state agencies.

  • Serves as chief legal officer for most state agencies.

  • Represents Arizona in any Federal court proceeding in which the State is a party.

  • Has supervisory powers over our county attorneys.

  • Steps in if a county attorney has a conflict of interest.
